Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) joined his colleagues in Albany to address the issue of organ donation and bolster New York State's Donate Life Registry efforts. This initiative comes as New York ranks 50th out of 52 states and territories in organ donor enrollment, a position reported by Donate Life New York concerning 2023 statistics.
Nearly 8,000 individuals in New York currently await a transplant, with over 1,000 having been on the waiting list for over five years. In response, Hawley calls upon residents of the 139th Assembly District to register as organ donors to change the state's low ranking and improve these statistics.
Hawley stated, "The New York State Donate Life Registry has been a lifesaver for countless New Yorkers throughout the years, and we have the opportunity to save countless more in the future. With our state being one of the lowest in the nation for enrollment, this generation of New Yorkers has the chance to change the lives of thousands of people across the country. I encourage everyone to consider registering to be an organ donor so we can save lives and help those in need."
