Joe Morelle addresses Washington plane crash and Trump's executive orders

Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 25th district, expressed his condolences and concerns through a series of tweets on January 30, 2025. Morelle has been serving in Congress since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.

On January 30, 2025, Morelle shared his sympathy for those affected by a plane crash in Washington. He stated, "My heart is with the families and loved ones affected by last night’s horrific plane crash in Washington." He also expressed gratitude for the first responders involved in the search and rescue efforts.

Later that day, Morelle addressed concerns regarding President Trump's Executive Orders. In his tweet, he mentioned that his office was receiving numerous calls from community members who were confused and upset. He said, "Our community is confused, scared, and angry—and I am, too." Morelle convened with leading organizations to devise a plan to counteract these orders.

In another tweet posted at the same time, Morelle commented on the Trump administration's decision to reverse a funding freeze. He noted that while this particular issue had been resolved temporarily, vigilance was necessary as future attempts might be made to cut essential programs. He asserted, "We must continue to fight back against any attempt to gut the programs and services our neighbors count on."
