Looking ahead to the Eastman School of Music’s remaining Eastman Presents concerts for spring 2023, we are pleased to showcase globally celebrated visiting artists, as well as our renowned faculty members. Concerts will be held throughout April in Eastman’s beautiful Kilbourn Hall.

“Don’t miss your last chances to see great artists in the 22/23 Eastman Presents season,” shares Director of Concert Operations Michael Stefiuk. “A major collaborator with Miles Davis, legendary guitarist John Scofield joins us for one night in Kilbourn Hall on Saturday, April 8.  And in the last concert of our season, on Friday, April 28, the 2021 Chopin International Piano Competition winner, Bruce Liu, performs an all-Chopin program, including the Second Piano Sonata.”

Tickets to all concerts are available at EastmanTheatre.org or by calling 585-274-3000. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible to secure the best seats for the most sought-after concerts and receive the highest level of savings.

Faculty Artist Series: Eastman Virtuosi, Saturday April 1, 2023, 7:30 p.m. Kilbourn Hall

Eastman Virtuosi performs as part of the Faculty Artist Series, generously supported by Patricia Ward Baker. Tickets are $10 for the general public and free to URID holders.

John Scofield in Concert, Saturday April 8, 2023, 7:30 p.m. Kilbourn Hall

Aside from being one of the principal innovators of modern jazz guitar, John Scofield is a creative artist of an even rarer sort: a stylistic chameleon who has forged a consistent, rock-solid aesthetic identity. A triple Grammy Award–winning artist with more than 40 recordings to his credit, Scofield has expressed himself in the vernacular of bebop, blues, jazz-funk, organ jazz, acoustic chamber jazz, electronically tinged groove music, jam band style and orchestral ensembles with ease and enthusiasm.

Faculty Artist Series: Jan Opalach, Bass-baritone, Sunday April 16, 3:00 p.m. Kilbourn Hall

Bass-baritone Jan Opalach performs a program titled “Bits and Pieces” in collaboration with pianist Alison d’Amato, oboist Erik Behr and James VanDemark, double bass. Repertoire will include music by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, Ives and John Duke.

Eastman Piano Series: Bruce Liu, Friday April 28, 7:30 p.m. Kilbourn Hall

The winner of the 2021 Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, among several other accolades, Canadian pianist Bruce Liu is a major new keyboard talent. He demonstrates a penetrating insight and maturity well beyond his years and brings a joyous freshness and spontaneity to his revelatory performances. For his Eastman debut, Liu presents a program of thrilling Chopin masterpieces.

About Eastman School of Music:

The Eastman School of Music was founded in 1921 by industrialist and philanthropist George Eastman (1854-1932), founder of Eastman Kodak Company. It was the first professional school of the University of Rochester. Mr. Eastman’s dream was that his school would provide a broad education in the liberal arts as well as superb musical training.

More than 900 students are enrolled in the Collegiate Division of the Eastman School of Music—about 500 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. They come from almost every state, and approximately 23 percent are from other countries. They are taught by a faculty comprised of more than 130 highly regarded performers, composers, conductors, scholars, and educators. They are Pulitzer Prize winners, Grammy winners, Emmy winners, Guggenheim fellows, ASCAP Award recipients, published authors, recording artists, and acclaimed musicians who have performed in the world’s greatest concert halls. Each year, Eastman’s students, faculty members, and guest artists present more than 900 concerts to the Rochester community. Additionally, more than 1,700 members of the Rochester community, from young children through senior citizens, are enrolled in the Eastman Community Music School.
