Management Monday: Have you prepared your plants for winter?
With the first snow of the season showing up yesterday here in Monroe County, it's time to think if your established plants on your property are prepared for winter. Supporting your plants while they're dormant though winter will help them now only during winter, but come spring when they're getting ready to enter the growing season.
The simplest way to offer winter plant protection is by adding an extra mulch layer around the bases of your plants to protect against any erosion, protect against frost and moisture loss, and to suppress weed growth come spring.
