Tom Reed for Congress issued the following announcement on June 8
Today, Reps. Tom Reed (NY-23) and Scott Peters (CA-52) sent a letter to HHS Secretary Azar requesting the department specifically distribute a portion of the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund (PHSSEF) to the clinical laboratories that are expanding the nation’s testing capacity.
The full letter can be found here.
“We understand the significant investments many clinical labs have made to step up during this crisis and increase access to COVID testing despite serious economic hardship. It is only fair that the laboratories who are working diligently to advance the country’s public health needs and support the reopening of our economy receive the aid they require,” said Rep. Reed.
"Clinical labs across the nation continue to pay for specialized equipment, supplies and talent to ensure COVID-19 testing gets done efficiently and effectively,” said Rep. Peters. “While demand for testing continues to grow, America’s labs need access to the critical funds and support necessary to provide lifesaving services during this public health emergency.”
“As the demand for testing continues to grow, clinical laboratories need dedicated funding to plan for challenges that lie ahead,” said Julie Khani, President of the American Clinical Laboratory Association. “Strong federal coordination and leadership is essential, and we’re looking forward to working with HHS to ensure that laboratories have the resources necessary to continue to expand our role at the forefront of the nation’s response.”
In addition to Representatives Reed and Peters, the letter was also signed by Representatives Max Rose (NY-11), Susan Wild (PA-07), Bill Pascrell J.R. (NJ-09), Darren Soto (FL-09), Terri Sewell (AL-07), Susan Davis (CA-53), Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01), Kendra Horn (OK-05), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-At-Large), Richard Hudson (NC-08), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Dan Bishop (NC-09), Ted Budd (NC-13), Denver Riggleman (VA-05), George Holding (NC-02), Andy Barr (KY-06), Jared Huffman (CA-02), Phil Roe (TN-01), Bobby Rush (IL-01), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Jackie Walorski (IN-02), Kenny Marchant (TX-24), John Larson (CT-01), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Neal Dunn (FL-02), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Madeleine Dean (PA-04).
