St. John’s Health Care Corporation was the third largest nursing home in Monroe County for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The latest data indicates that the facility offered 455 beds, exceeding Monroe County’s average by 303 beds during that period. On average, they cared for 331 residents in the first quarter of 2026.

CMS assigned St. John’s Health Care Corporation an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which trails the New York state nursing home average of 3.1.

Monroe Community Hospital led the county as the largest nursing home with 566 beds, while St. Ann’s Community was second with 470 beds during the quarter.

In addition, as of the first quarter of 2026, St. John’s Health Care Corporation faced two fines totaling $141,034 and experienced two penalties.

Altogether, Monroe County, New York had 20 for-profit nursing homes in operation.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older population continues its growth, contrasting with declining younger age groups. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while the number of individuals under age 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult demographic has increased significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study from 2021 suggests nearly half of those age 65 and older, or about 28 million people, may need long-term services and supports. The study also estimates that more than one-third could require nursing home care eventually.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
