Joseph Morelle, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has recently shared thoughts on significant political issues through his Twitter account. Morelle, a seasoned politician with a long career in public service, used social media to advocate for legislation against deepfake technology, critique the Trump administration’s economic and social policies, and emphasize the importance of support for community programs addressing the opioid crisis.

On April 29, 2025, Morelle expressed his leadership role in advocating for legislation relating to online privacy. He stated, “I was proud to lead a bipartisan effort supporting similar legislation, the Preventing Deepfakes of Intimate Images Act, which would establish both criminal and civil penalties for these heinous acts. I look forward to continuing to push for a comprehensive solution to this.”

In another tweet posted the same day, Morelle criticized the policies of former President Trump, remarking, “In Trump’s first 100 days he has wiped trillions in value from our stock market, raised costs for hardworking families, cut critical funding for community organizations, and threatened free and fair elections in America. In short, he’s broken the promises Americans elected him.”

In recognition of #FentanylAwarenessDay, Morelle highlighted ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis by community organizations, tweeting, “It’s #FentanylAwarenessDay, but our community organizations are fighting the opioid epidemic every day. We need to fight for the programs that prevent overdoses, deliver treatment, and offer hope—and we can’t allow the Trump administration to continue gutting their funding.”

Joseph Morelle followed a path of public service beginning in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until 2018 before stepping into his current role in Congress. Born in Utica and a resident of Irondequoit, Morelle is known for advocating on a wide range of legislative issues. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Geneseo, graduating in 1986.
