Joseph Morelle, a current U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 25th district, has recently expressed his views on several significant issues through social media. With a political career that includes serving in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018 before taking over from Louise Slaughter in Congress, Morelle continues to engage with pressing national concerns.
On June 2, 2025, Morelle criticized former President Donald Trump regarding allegations of preferential treatment for wealthy and loyal individuals. He stated, “Trump has made it clear, justice is for sale if you’re rich, famous, and loyal to him. After reportedly $30M in fraud, they get a ‘get out of jail free card.'”
Later that day, Morelle addressed the issue of gun violence by labeling it as a public health crisis. He emphasized the ongoing impact on families and advocated for legislative reforms: “Gun violence is a public health crisis. Too many families are living with the pain of its consequences. This #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth we remember the countless lives stolen. I’m fighting for real, lasting reforms like universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons.”
Additionally, Morelle commemorated the anniversary of the Indian Citizenship Act while highlighting ongoing voting rights challenges faced by Native peoples. He stated his commitment to advancing relevant legislation: “101 years ago today, the Indian Citizenship Act became law—yet many states & localities continue to deny Native peoples full voting rights. I’m working to advance the Native American Voting Rights Act and other bills to ensure every eligible voter has access to the ballot box.”
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. A graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo with a BA earned in 1986, he continues his legislative efforts on various issues affecting his constituents and beyond.
