Joseph Morelle, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, shared his perspectives on recent legislative and policy issues through a series of tweets on May 7, 2025. These tweets addressed topics ranging from education to economic policies and healthcare.
In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, Morelle expressed pride in introducing legislation aimed at emphasizing the importance of education in America. He stated, “In honor of #TeacherAppreciationWeek, I’m proud to introduce this legislation to send a clear signal that America is focused on educating our future leaders.” He further criticized the Trump administration for making “drastic cuts to critical student and teacher” resources.
Later that day, Morelle commented on President Trump’s tariff policies, highlighting their negative impact on American families and international relations. He tweeted, “President Trump’s chaotic tariff policies are hurting American families and causing our global allies to question our judgment.” Morelle advocated for a return to “common-sense policies,” citing the CHIPS and Science Act as an example of successful policy implementation.
Concluding his commentary for the day, Morelle referred to a report indicating potential loss of health coverage due to tax breaks favoring wealthy individuals. He asserted via Twitter that “Another nonpartisan report confirms it: millions could lose health coverage so Trump’s ultra-rich friends can get another tax break.” Emphasizing his role as a public servant, he reiterated the government’s responsibility in investing in citizens’ welfare.
Joseph Morelle has been serving in Congress since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018. Prior to this role, he was part of the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his congressional appointment. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle holds a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
