Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, has recently addressed several policy and social issues through his official Twitter account.
On August 11, 2025, Morelle criticized the federal budget proposal under former President Donald Trump, stating: “Trump’s budget is premised on the idea that the wealthiest Americans deserve a tax break taken out of the health care and nutrition assistance of millions of working-class Americans. That is not the American way.”
The following day, August 12, Morelle highlighted regional contributions to national defense technology at a Department of Defense event. He posted: “I’m proud to represent a region filled with innovative companies leading the way in technology that defends our national security. Great to join these local leaders for the @DeptofDefense Northeast Regional Council Conference today.”
Later on August 12, he spoke out against efforts to overturn legal decisions impacting equality rights: “Attempts to overturn this landmark decision and strip away equality from millions are shameful. This is a critical moment to stand together against any effort to claw back basic human rights because of who someone loves or how they identify.”
Joseph Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress after her passing in 2018 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his congressional election. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle earned his BA from SUNY Geneseo in 1986.
