Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, shared his thoughts on several pressing issues via social media on June 10, 2025. Morelle, who succeeded Louise Slaughter and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018, used the platform to address topics ranging from pay equality to international relations.
On June 10, Morelle commemorated the signing of the Equal Pay Act in 1963 by highlighting ongoing challenges in achieving pay equity. He stated that “the fight for pay equality is far from over” and emphasized that “the wage gap persists, especially for women of color.” Morelle urged action to close this gap permanently.
Later that day, Morelle expressed concern about U.S. foreign policy regarding Ukraine. Citing information from the Secretary of Defense, he noted plans by the Trump administration to reduce support for Ukraine amidst its conflict with Russia. He stressed that “we cannot abandon Ukraine in their fight to defend freedom and democracy.”
In another post on June 10, Morelle discussed domestic policy related to family welfare programs. He praised the Child Tax Credit for its role in reducing poverty among families but criticized Republican efforts to diminish this support. He remarked that “Republicans want to take that support away from the kids who need it most.”
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986.
