Joseph Morelle, currently representing New York’s 25th District in the U.S. Congress, has taken to social media to express his views and concerns on recent developments. The Congressman, who succeeded Louise Slaughter in 2018, has been vocal about various social issues through his Twitter posts.

On April 17, 2025, Morelle shared his concern regarding the safety of students in educational environments following an unfortunate event at Florida State University (FSU). He expressed, “I’m praying for all those touched by the tragedy at FSU today. Our students should never have to fear for their lives while getting their education.”

Continuing his communication on social issues, Morelle discussed the confusion surrounding recent changes at the Social Security Administration on April 18, 2025. He highlighted the urgency of protecting Social Security, writing, “We get calls every day from people confused by changes at the Social Security Administration—worried they’ll lose the benefits they’ve earned. Social Security is a lifeline. We must protect it for the people who depend on it.”

On the same day, Morelle addressed food security and his efforts to ensure access to nutrition, emphasizing his legislative support. He stated, “No one deserves to go hungry, that’s why I’ve fought to secure funding for critical community programs like Foodlink and supported legislation like the Universal School Meals Program to ensure our students have access to nutritious meals.”

Morelle, born in 1957 in Utica, New York, has lived in Irondequoit and graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986 with a BA. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.
