U.S. Congressman Joe Morelle, who represents New York’s 25th district, posted a series of statements on February 24, 2026, regarding his participation in the State of the Union (SOTU) and his perspective on national policy. Morelle reflected on personal values learned from his father and criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies.
In a post dated February 25, 2026, Morelle stated: “I learned these two things from my father: 1. Despite how you feel, if you have responsibilities, you go do your job, every day. 2. You stand up to bullies. That’s why I’ll be at the #SOTU tonight.”
Later that evening, he commented on the impact of previous administration policies: “As we gather for the #SOTU, I’m thinking about families across the country who have been paying the price for Donald Trump’s reckless policies. I’m fighting to make changes that put them first.”
In another statement posted on February 25, Morelle continued his criticism of Trump’s economic record: “If Trump’s policies truly helped our economy, families wouldn’t be struggling to afford basic needs. My guest, the president of @IberoRoc, sees the reality every day. Families are working hard and still falling behind because Trump refuses to put the American people first. #SOTU”
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th District in Congress since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter and previously served in the New York State Assembly for nearly three decades. Born in Utica in 1957 and residing in Irondequoit, Morelle graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
