Joe Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, recently reflected on his time in office and current political issues through a series of posts on his official social media account.
On July 18, 2025, Morelle highlighted the legacy of civil rights leader John Lewis, stating, “Looking back on my time working with my friend and colleague John Lewis helps remind me why I’m here and just how important making good trouble is.”
Later that same day, Morelle addressed concerns about proposed changes to federal nutrition assistance programs under former President Donald Trump’s budget proposal. He wrote on July 18, 2025: “Trump’s budget includes $200 billion in cuts to SNAP, and a shift in cost-sharing that could force some states to shut down SNAP entirely. Families won’t just get less—they could get nothing.”
The following day, Morelle commemorated the anniversary of the first Woman’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls. On July 19, 2025 he posted: “177 years ago, trailblazers like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott met at the first Woman’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls just outside of #ROC. I’m proud continue the fight to secure access to the ballot box for all eligible Americans.”
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th district since replacing Louise Slaughter in Congress in 2018. Before joining Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
