Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, highlighted local innovation, the significance of Social Security, and new community resources in a series of posts on August 14, 2025.
In a tweet posted at 14:35 UTC, Morelle expressed appreciation for an invitation from the SUNY Chancellor to discuss artificial intelligence initiatives: “Grateful to @SUNYChancellor for inviting me to join a discussion on Empire AI and the SUNY AI for Public Good Faculty Fellows Program. This is the kind of forward-looking investment we need to keep NY at the forefront of innovation and ensure AI can serve the public good.”
Later that day at 17:50 UTC, he addressed the enduring role of Social Security: “For 90 years, through wars, recessions, and changing political landscapes, Social Security has stood as a pillar of stability for millions of Americans. Today, under new and continued threats to the program, we must protect the promise of Socials Security for generations to”.
At 22:20 UTC on August 14th, Morelle announced participation in a regional initiative focused on connecting people with support services: “Proud to join today’s launch of TogetherNOW’s MyWayFinder—the first tool of its kind in our region, connecting people to services and organizations that provide support when they need it. Together we’re making it easier to get help, find hope, & build a stronger community.”
Morelle’s recent activity reflects ongoing involvement with both technological advancement and social safety net issues within his district. He has represented New York’s 25th District since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and now residing in Irondequoit at age 65, Morelle is an alumnus of SUNY Geneseo.
