Joseph Morelle, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has been vocal on social media about several pressing issues. Through his recent tweets, he has addressed topics ranging from women’s health to community development and political accountability.
On May 15, 2025, Morelle highlighted the importance of protecting reproductive health during National Women’s Health Week. He criticized efforts by Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, stating that such actions jeopardize essential services like cancer screenings, birth control, and STI testing. Morelle emphasized that “Women’s health is not optional.”
Later that day, Morelle expressed gratitude for meeting with the Urban League of Rochester team in Washington D.C. He praised their commitment to advancing workforce development, community safety, and voting rights in communities of color across Rochester. He shared his enthusiasm for continuing this collaboration by stating “Excited to keep building on this important work together.”
On May 16, 2025, Morelle questioned former President Donald Trump’s promise to lower prices immediately upon taking office. In a pointed tweet referencing the time elapsed since Trump made this pledge, Morelle asked “It’s day 116, what happened to that promise?” This remark reflects ongoing concerns regarding economic promises made by political leaders.
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018 and previously held a long tenure in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his congressional election. Born in Utica and residing in Irondequoit, he graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
