Joseph Morelle, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, recently shared insights and activities through a series of tweets. Serving since 2018 after replacing Louise Slaughter, Morelle continues to engage with both national issues and local community matters.
On May 6, 2025, Morelle announced his appearance on NewsNation with Leland Vittert at approximately 9:15 PM to discuss the impact of President Trump’s tariffs on working families. He invited followers to “Tune in!” for the discussion.
Later that day, Morelle highlighted Mom’s Equal Pay Day as a reminder of ongoing wage disparities. He noted that working mothers earn just 74 cents for every dollar paid to fathers and emphasized the need for economic justice and policies valuing their contributions both at home and work. His tweet read: “Today is Mom’s Equal Pay Day—a stark reminder that working moms still earn just 74 cents for every dollar paid to dads.”
Additionally, Morelle expressed gratitude for meeting with local organizations visiting Washington D.C., acknowledging their efforts in supporting the Rochester community. He stated that these interactions inspire his congressional work towards regional development. In his words: “Grateful to connect over coffee with local organizations visiting D.C. today.”
Joseph Morelle has been an active political figure since serving in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his congressional tenure began in 2018. Born in Utica, New York in 1957, he currently resides in Irondequoit and holds a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
