Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, addressed several policy and community issues in a series of tweets posted on July 29 and July 30, 2025.
On July 29, Morelle reflected on the anniversary of NASA’s founding, stating: “On this day in 1958, NASA was created—igniting a legacy of discovery that reshaped our understanding of the universe. Today, as the Trump administration attempts to gut scientific research programs, we must recommit to funding the discoveries of our future.”
The following day, Morelle focused on economic concerns for American families. He wrote: “My priority is to support the needs of families and ensure they have the resources to thrive. Trump’s budget is the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in American history, putting families at risk of falling into the cycle of poverty.” The tweet included a link to further information about his stance.
Later on July 30, Morelle welcomed Bill Sanders as President of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), emphasizing his commitment to higher education: “I’m excited to welcome the new President of @RITtigers, Bill Sanders, to Rochester! I look forward to our work together to strengthen higher education opportunities and prepare our leaders for the workforce of tomorrow.”
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th District since succeeding Louise Slaughter in Congress in 2018. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his election to Congress. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle holds a BA from SUNY Geneseo.
