Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, recently shared updates on community events and political issues through social media. Born in Utica, New York, in 1957, Morelle has a long history of public service, including serving in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.
On May 12, 2025, Morelle encouraged participation in Rochester’s 127th annual Lilac Festival. He highlighted the festival as an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy various activities such as flowers, nature walks, food stalls, crafts, and live music.
Later that day, Morelle addressed concerns over administrative actions at the Library of Congress. In a tweet, he criticized the “baseless firing of the Librarian of Congress” and “illegitimate removal” of the Copyright Office Director. He described these actions as an “assault on Congressional authority and independence” and called for an investigation by the LOC Inspector General into potential improper access to confidential congressional data.
In another update on May 12, Morelle announced a significant investment alongside County Executive Bello. They revealed a $4.2 million investment aimed at enhancing public safety and expanding career opportunities within Monroe County. This initiative focuses on developing training programs for future EMTs and paramedics to better prepare for crisis situations.
Joseph Morelle graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a BA in 1986 and currently resides in Irondequoit.
