Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, has recently shared his views on social media regarding significant legislative and policy issues. Morelle, who succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018, has been vocal about matters affecting his constituents.
On July 7, 2025, Morelle addressed concerns over food assistance programs such as SNAP. He stated that “Food assistance programs like SNAP help families put food on the table and keep our children fed.” He criticized former President Trump’s budget proposal for potentially removing these benefits from families nationwide. Morelle emphasized that “No one should be forced to go hungry so billionaires can pay less in taxes.”
Later that day, Morelle announced opportunities for those interested in understanding governmental processes. On July 7, he tweeted about internship openings in his Rochester, NY and Washington, DC offices for the upcoming Fall semester. He invited potential applicants by stating: “Interested in learning about the legislative process and the functions of a Congressional office?”
On July 8, Morelle voiced his opposition to proposed legislation affecting healthcare access. He expressed concern that everyone would be impacted regardless of their insurance type—Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance. He pledged ongoing efforts to safeguard healthcare access by asserting: “I’ll keep fighting to protect access for our neighbors because no one should be without lifesaving healthcare.”
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. He graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
