Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district, recently shared insights on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. Morelle, who has been serving in Congress since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter, addressed topics ranging from security at the Capitol to healthcare and public health concerns.
On July 9, 2025, Morelle announced his first meeting with the new Capitol Police Chief Sullivan to discuss security priorities. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that law enforcement partners have the necessary resources. Morelle stated, “Today I had my first meeting with our new @CapitolPolice Chief Sullivan to discuss security priorities and confirm that our law enforcement partners have the resources they need.” This meeting aims to ensure that Americans feel safe when visiting the Capitol.
Later on July 9, Morelle expressed concern over a Republican budget proposal, which he believes would adversely affect an already strained healthcare system. In his tweet, he mentioned standing with ProtectCareNY and other advocates to highlight potential threats posed by this bill to New Yorkers’ healthcare. He wrote, “The Republican budget will put dangerous pressure on an already strained healthcare system.”
On July 10, Morelle addressed the issue of rising measles cases due to declining vaccination rates and disinformation. He described measles as a preventable threat that is now seeing record-high cases impacting communities. He tweeted, “Measles is a preventable threat.” This situation highlights the human cost of disinformation and decreased vaccination rates.
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. He graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
