Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, shared his thoughts on various national issues through a series of tweets on June 9, 2025. Morelle, who succeeded Louise Slaughter and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018, addressed concerns related to economic policies and healthcare under the Trump administration.
In a tweet posted at 2:35 PM UTC, Morelle questioned the stability of business planning amid fluctuating tariff policies by the Trump administration. He stated, “How can businesses plan for the future when the Trump administration keeps changing its tariff policies? They can’t—and that uncertainty hurts our economy.”
Later that day at 8:10 PM UTC, Morelle expressed concern over President Trump’s proposed budget cuts affecting healthcare coverage. He remarked, “Whether you’re on Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance—President Trump’s budget cuts will hit you. We’ll all feel the pain as emergency rooms are overburdened with the newly uninsured.”
At 9:53 PM UTC, Morelle highlighted his support for a resolution to rename the House Press Gallery as the “Frederick Douglass Press Gallery.” He noted Douglass’s enduring legacy in Rochester and nationwide in promoting justice: “I’m proud to have supported a resolution to designate the House Press Gallery as the ‘Frederick Douglass Press Gallery.’ His legacy lives on here in Rochester—and across the nation—as we continue the fight for justice.”
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. He graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
