U.S. Congressman Joe Morelle, who represents New York’s 25th district, recently used his social media platform to comment on several actions by former President Donald Trump, including decisions related to economic data reporting, healthcare access, and support for Afghan allies.
On August 1, 2025, Morelle addressed reports of a possible dismissal within the Bureau of Labor Statistics following a weak jobs report. He stated: “In business: concerning data = strategy shift. In Trump world: concerning data = blame the statistician. Firing the BLS commissioner for a weak jobs report isn’t leadership. It’s denial.”
Later that day, Morelle commented on healthcare policy changes impacting Planned Parenthood under the Trump administration. He wrote: “Trump’s ban on Medicaid reimbursements to Planned Parenthood takes away lifesaving services like STI testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and birth control. I’m cosponsoring the Restoring Essential Healthcare Act to repeal the ban and protect healthcare access for all.”
On August 2, 2025, Morelle responded to decisions affecting Afghan allies who supported U.S. troops during military operations in Afghanistan. He said: “Trump’s decision to end programs that support our Afghan allies betrays the individuals who stood by our troops and diminishes our national security.”
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter and previously spent nearly three decades in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
