Joe Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, publicly criticized recent actions by former President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson in a series of social media posts on October 10, 2025.
In his first post at 15:53 UTC, Morelle expressed support for Tish James and accused Trump of abusing the Justice Department: “I’ve known Tish James for years—she’s a person of deep integrity and courage. This indictment is just more corrupt bullying by Donald Trump. He’s shown he’ll continue to weaponize the Justice Department against those who dare to call him out.”
Later that day at 17:09 UTC, Morelle commented on remarks made by Stephen Miller regarding presidential authority: “Stephen Miller, the Trump administration’s architect of doom, said the quiet part out loud this week. A president having ‘plenary power’ goes against everything our founding fathers stood for. It’s un-American, and it’s dangerous.”
At 18:53 UTC, Morelle addressed Speaker Johnson’s stance toward the U.S. Capitol Police: “Speaker Johnson doesn’t stand with U.S. Capitol Police, he exploits them. He defended pardoning violent felons who attacked these officers and blocked efforts to honor them. Real support means protecting those who protect us, not using them for politics.”
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since succeeding Louise Slaughter in 2018 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, he graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
