Joe Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, has voiced criticism of recent Trump Administration policies in a series of tweets posted on May 20 and 21, 2026.

On May 20, Morelle wrote: “The recklessness of the Trump Administration is out of control. Trump chose to dismantle the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, a program that has longstanding bipartisan support as a common sense public safety program.”

Later that day, he added: “My team and I are exploring every legal avenue available to us to stop the proposed ICE detention cells in the downtown Federal Building from opening. I won’t stop fighting for our community, and communities across the country facing Donald Trump’s inhumane immigration agenda.”

On May 21, Morelle further stated: “The Trump Administration wants people who have come here, worked hard, and built a life for themselves to live in fear. That’s the point, and it is indefensible.”

Joseph Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress after her passing in 2018 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. He was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. Morelle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Geneseo.
