Joe Morelle, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 25th district, has recently commented on several national political issues through his official social media account. In a series of posts dated July 11, 2025, Morelle addressed topics ranging from election integrity to federal budget priorities and recognition of law enforcement officers.
On July 11, 2025, Morelle criticized Republican efforts regarding Texas electoral districts, stating “The Republican scheme to gerrymander Texas districts mid-cycle is a blatant attempt to change the rules in the middle of the game. This isn’t how free and fair elections work, and it undermines trust in our elections.”
Later that day, he expressed concerns about former President Trump’s proposed budget plan. In his words posted on July 11, 2025: “Trump’s budget benefits the top 1% in our country. The bill is a reverse Robin Hood—prioritizing the billionaires who sat behind him on inauguration day at the expense of hardworking American families.”
In another post on July 11, 2025, Morelle discussed actions taken by House Democrats to honor law enforcement officers involved in protecting the Capitol during January 6th events. He stated: “If the so-called party of ‘law and order,’ refuses to honor the officers who risked their safety on January 6th to protect the Capitol—House Democrats will. Alongside nearly 120 other members, I hung a copy of the plaque honoring our Capitol Police outside my office.”
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th District since replacing Louise Slaughter in Congress in 2018. Before joining Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and now residing in Irondequoit, Morelle graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
