On July 5, Morelle commented on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding birthright citizenship and checks and balances. He stated that “Birthright citizenship is a right!” He further noted that the “SCOTUS chose to weaken our system of checks and balances at the time when we need it most.” Morelle emphasized that nationwide injunctions are crucial tools against perceived overreach by the Trump administration.
The next day, on July 6, Morelle addressed recent legislative actions taken by Republicans concerning health insurance. He remarked that “Republicans chose to pass a bill that will kick millions of their health insurance.” He warned about the broader impact of this legislation stating that “everyone, even those who won’t lose coverage,” would feel its consequences.

Born in Utica in 1957 and residing in Irondequoit now at age 65, Morelle is an alumnus of SUNY Geneseo where he completed his BA degree in 1986.
