U.S. Congressman Joseph Morelle, representing New York’s 25th district, used his Twitter account to criticize recent legislative efforts regarding insider trading and congressional accountability. Morelle addressed his concerns over the “Stop Insider Trading Act” and called for stricter measures to restore public trust in government.

On January 20, 2026, Morelle posted: “The ‘Stop Insider Trading Act’ put forth by my Republican colleagues does nothing to stop Trump’s self-dealing actions. We need real change that restores trust in our government.”

Later that day, he added: “This culture of corruption has gone on long enough. We need to ban congressional stock trading. As the top Democrat on @HouseAdm_Dems, I’m proud to stand with @RepTerriSewell, @NormaJTorres, and @RepJulieJohnson to demand real accountability. The Republican Stop Insider”

On January 21, 2026, Morelle encouraged constituents to stay informed about his work: “Stay up to date on what’s happening in our community and how I’m making your voice heard in Washington. Subscribe to my weekly e-mail newsletter below.”

Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter and is a longtime resident of Irondequoit. Before his current role, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica in 1957, Morelle earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986.
