Joe Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district, has recently shared his perspectives on the Republican budget and announced an upcoming virtual town hall event. Morelle, who succeeded Louise Slaughter in 2018 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018, took to social media to express his concerns and engage with constituents.
On July 9, 2025, Morelle criticized the Republican budget plan by stating that it “doesn’t just slash health and nutrition aid—it guts clean energy investments, too.” He warned that this could lead to “higher electric bills, less energy security, and more fossil fuel dependence,” predicting that families might see their bills rise by up to 30% by 2029. He concluded by asserting that “our communities deserve better.” The original post can be viewed here.
Later that day, Morelle invited constituents to join him for a Virtual Town Hall scheduled for July 14 at 5:30 PM. In his invitation posted on July 9, he encouraged people to “share your thoughts, ask questions, and learn about what I’m doing to fight back.” Registration details were provided along with a note about limited space availability. The full invitation is available here.
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Morelle informed those unable to attend the live event that it would be livestreamed. The announcement can be found here.
Joseph Morelle has been serving in Congress since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, he holds a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo obtained in 1986.
