Joseph Morelle, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, has taken to social media to express his views on recent political developments. Born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle has been an active political figure since his time in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.
On May 20, 2025, Morelle tweeted about the actions of House Democrats and Republicans regarding the January 6 attack. He stated, “Last week, House Democrats fought to honor the officers who responded to the Jan. 6 attack. House Republicans ignored us & refused to follow the law.” He further criticized the Department of Justice for what he perceived as an insult to those officers.
In another tweet on the same day, Morelle addressed former President Trump’s involvement with House Republicans in advancing legislation that he believes would negatively impact Americans. He commented, “President Trump is joining @HouseGOP to try and force through a bill that will hurt hard working Americans…” He highlighted potential cuts to Medicaid and SNAP as detrimental effects of this proposed bill.
Later that day, Morelle voiced support for Rep. LaMonica McIver amid legal challenges she faces. He described these charges as politically motivated and stated his solidarity with McIver and other members of Congress striving to serve without intimidation. He tweeted, “The charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver are a direct attack on Congress’s duty…”
Joseph Morelle graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
