Joseph Morelle, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has shared his views on recent international and domestic developments through a series of tweets. Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in 2018 and has been active in various legislative matters since then.
On May 10, 2025, Joe Morelle expressed his satisfaction regarding the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. He stated, “I am pleased to see India and Pakistan have reached agreement on a ceasefire. I am optimistic this agreement will hold and allow for diplomatic engagement between the two countries.”
In another tweet posted shortly after, Morelle emphasized the importance of sustained peace for global security. He noted that “Sustained peace in the region—and across the world—is vital for global security, and I am hopeful a long-term agreement can be reached to bring about lasting peace.”
Later that day, he addressed domestic issues by criticizing former President Donald Trump’s decision to terminate Shira Perlmutter from her position as Register of Copyrights. Morelle described it as “a brazen, unprecedented power grab with no legal basis,” suggesting it was related to her refusal to support Elon Musk’s efforts concerning copyrighted materials.
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th District since 2018 after serving in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica, New York in 1957, he now resides in Irondequoit.
