Joe Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, has recently addressed issues of voting rights and Capitol security in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On July 23, 2025, Morelle stated: “Every American has the right to vote confidently in free and fair elections; no eligible voter should fear their vote wasn’t counted.” The post underscores concerns about election integrity and voter confidence.
Later that day, Morelle commented on actions by House Speaker Mike Johnson regarding the commemoration of law enforcement officers involved in the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. He wrote: “Speaker Johnson refuses to hang the plaque honoring the officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th. We won’t forget their service. Post the plaque.”
On July 24, 2025, Morelle marked an anniversary related to Capitol security by posting: “Today, we remember U.S. Capitol Police Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson who were senselessly murdered protecting our Capitol 27 years ago. To our Capitol Police officers, we deeply appreciate the sacrifices you and your loved ones make on behalf of our democracy.”
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018 and previously spent nearly three decades in the New York State Assembly. Born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, he is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a BA earned in 1986.
