Joseph Morelle, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has utilized social media to voice his concerns and legislative priorities. Morelle, who has been in office since replacing Louise Slaughter in 2018, has taken to Twitter to communicate his stance on voting rights and economic impacts on small businesses.
On April 23, 2025, Morelle expressed his concerns over the SAVE Act, stating, “The SAVE Act would harm voting rights in America.” He encouraged House GOP members to support an alternative, stating, “If @HouseGOP wants to advance voting rights for our country, I’ve got a bill they can support: the Freedom to Vote Act.” Morelle advocates strongly for this act, which he believes better aligns with protecting voting rights.
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Morelle elaborated on the benefits of the Freedom to Vote Act. He described its protective measures for political participation: “The Freedom to Vote Act would ensure all Americans can vote in secure, accessible, transparent elections.” Morelle highlighted the Act’s aim to safeguard the right to vote, support local election workers, restrict dark money in politics, and prevent partisan gerrymandering.
On the economic front, Morelle thanked a local organization for hosting him in Rochester to discuss his legislative work. On April 23, 2025, he tweeted, “Thank you to the @RochesterChambr for inviting me to join their members for an update on my work in Washington.” Morelle criticized the Trump administration’s handling of trade policies, which he believes jeopardizes small businesses. He expressed his commitment to finding solutions beneficial for local entrepreneurs, emphasizing his focus on promoting supportive measures for business owners in Rochester.
Joseph Morelle, a native of Utica, New York, and a resident of Irondequoit, has represented New York’s 25th District in the U.S. Congress since 2018. He previously served in the New York State Assembly. Morelle is an alumnus of the State University of New York at Geneseo, where he graduated with a BA in 1986.
