Joseph Morelle, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has been vocal about the imperative nature of medical guidelines and the hazards of disinformation. Morelle, who took over from Louise Slaughter in 2018, has previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.
On April 26, 2025, Morelle shared a personal experience, reinforcing the importance of medical advice. In a tweet, he declared “As a parent who lost a child to a disease we couldn’t control, I know that any death from a preventable illness is unacceptable. We must listen to trusted medical professionals and push back against dangerous disinformation.”
The following day, Morelle highlighted the consequences of declining vaccination rates. He tweeted on April 27, 2025, that “Behind each new measles case is a terrified parent, a sleepless night in the ER, or a child hooked up to machines just to breathe. That’s the human cost of disinformation—and what happens when vaccination rates fall.”
Also, on April 27, 2025, Morelle critiqued the SAVE Act, criticizing it as a measure that could undermine democratic principles. In his comments, Morelle stated that “The SAVE Act is a voter suppression bill that will weaken our democracy. For married women, overseas military, senior citizens, and more, this bill creates senseless barriers to exercising their fundamental right to vote.” Morelle’s assertions reflect his ongoing advocacy for both public health and democratic engagement.
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York, in 1957, and currently resides in Irondequoit. He holds a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo, obtained in 1986.
