Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district, posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing voting rights, violence at a religious center, and immigration policy.
On May 18, 2026, Morelle commented on Republican efforts related to the electoral process: “Republicans are very concerned about the verdict of the American people in the midterms. That’s why they’re trying to limit how people vote. We’re not going to let them.”
Addressing an incident at a place of worship, Morelle wrote on May 19, 2026: “I’m horrified by the violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego. No one should ever fear for their life while gathering at their place of worship. I’m praying for all those impacted, and grateful to the first responders working to protect the community.”
Later that day, he criticized federal immigration actions affecting his district: “The Trump Administration is trying to bring their cruel and inhumane immigration agenda into the heart of Rochester. They’re doing this with no regard for the people of our community. I’m fighting back so these detention cells never open.”
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since 2018 after replacing Louise Slaughter and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his election to Congress. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle earned a BA from SUNY Geneseo in 1986.
