Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, used his social media platform on November 5, 2025, to address issues ranging from voting rights and accessibility for the deaf community to healthcare priorities under the Trump administration.
In a post published at 14:56 UTC, Morelle paid tribute to Shirley Chisholm, stating: “Today, we remember Ms. Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to the House of Representatives in 1968. @HouseDemocrats will continue the fight to ensure every eligible voter has access to the ballot box and their voices heard.”
Later that day at 18:58 UTC, he criticized a decision by the Trump administration regarding sign language interpreters: “Once again, the Trump administration must be forced to do the right thing. Removing sign language interpreters from briefings alienates millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing Americans who have a right to accessible information about their government.”
At 21:16 UTC on November 5th, Morelle addressed President Trump directly with concerns about economic and healthcare policy: “President Trump, it’s time to listen to American voters. Bring down costs, protect access to healthcare, and prioritize working families.”
Joseph Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress after her passing in 2018 and previously served in the New York State Assembly for nearly three decades. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle holds a BA from SUNY Geneseo earned in 1986.
