Joe Morelle, currently representing New York’s 25th district in the U.S. Congress, has shared multiple messages on social media reflecting his legislative priorities. Morelle, who succeeded Louise Slaughter in 2018, addresses economic and social issues through a series of posts on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
On April 14, 2025, Morelle expressed his concerns about the economic impact of Trump’s tariffs, stating that “Hardworking families are just trying to get by—and Trump’s tariffs will only hit them with even more costs.” He emphasized the importance of lowering costs rather than increasing them through trade wars.
On the following day, April 15, 2025, Morelle highlighted #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, pointing to the significance of acknowledging the maternal mortality crisis affecting Black women. He stated, “It’s #BlackMaternalHealthWeek—an important opportunity to recognize the Black maternal mortality crisis and the tens of thousands of women who suffer complications each year.” Morelle affirmed his commitment to finding equitable and safe solutions for mothers and families.
Morelle further elaborated on his efforts to address maternal health issues by publicizing his support for legislative actions. On April 15, 2025, he communicated, “I’ve proudly cosponsored the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act to provide historic investments that would comprehensively address America’s maternal health crisis and save moms’ lives.” He reiterated his dedication to pursuing legislation aimed at resolving these challenges.
Morelle, aged 65, was born in Utica, New York, in 1957, and currently lives in Irondequoit. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018.
