On May 20, 2026, Morelle criticized Republican proposals regarding energy policy, stating: “Republicans are proposing cuts that undermine investments in our energy future. Joseph Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress after her passing in 2018 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his election to Congress. Born in Utica, New York in 1957, he currently resides in Irondequoit and is an alumnus of the State University of New York at Geneseo.
