Joseph Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018, addressed several key issues in a series of posts on July 29, 2025. Morelle expressed his condolences regarding a recent violent incident and reaffirmed his commitment to healthcare access and opposition to proposed budget cuts.
On July 29, 2025, Morelle responded to a tragic event in Midtown by stating, “I’m devastated by the shooting in Midtown that claimed multiple lives, including an off-duty NYPD officer. Deeply thankful to the NYPD who acted swiftly in the face of such a horrific event. My heart is with the victims and their families during this unimaginable time.”
Later that day, he highlighted his legislative efforts on healthcare: “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to enhance protections for those with pre-existing conditions and eliminate surprise medical bills. I’ll keep fighting to make healthcare accessible for every family.”
He also criticized recent fiscal proposals from the Republican party: “The Republican budget is the largest rollback of essential services in U.S. history, and will harm millions.”
Joseph Morelle has represented New York’s 25th district in Congress since succeeding Louise Slaughter in 2018. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1991 to 2018. Born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986.
