Joe Morelle, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 25th district since 2018 and former member of the New York State Assembly, posted a series of statements on May 29, 2026, addressing local community issues and national political developments.
In his first post at 13:12 UTC, Morelle commented on the detention of Omar Ramos Jimenez, stating, “Omar Ramos Jimenez has lived in Rochester for 30 years, paid his taxes, started a small business, and been active in his community. The notion he is somehow a flight risk, which is why he’s been detained, is outrageous. He just wants to be home, in Rochester, with his family.”
Later that day at 15:38 UTC, Morelle shared his visit to University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men (UPrepR), expressing appreciation for their educational efforts: “Thank you to @UPrepR for welcoming me for a visit! It was great to meet with school leaders to hear about their work supporting young men in Rochester, and sit down with some of their very talented culinary students.”
At 16:56 UTC on the same day, Morelle addressed a recent court ruling related to the distribution of taxpayer funds and political accountability. He wrote, “Americans work too hard for their money to see it handed out to Donald Trump’s political allies. Today’s ruling is a win for taxpayers and a reminder that no one is above the law. Thanks to @DemocracyFwd and @CommonCause for taking this fight to court!”
Joseph Morelle succeeded Louise Slaughter in Congress after her passing in 2018 and has served continuously since then. Prior to joining Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1991 until 2018. Born in Utica in 1957 and currently residing in Irondequoit, Morelle holds a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
