U.S. Congressman Joe Morelle, who represents New York’s 25th district, posted a series of statements on January 12, 2026, addressing the work of his office and expressing concern over political developments and threats to lawmakers.
In a message highlighting constituent services, Morelle stated, “I’m proud of the work my office does every day to help members of our community navigate federal agencies, access important resources, and secure money owed to them. To learn how we may be able to assist you or someone you know, check out my webpage: https://t.co/OOs0fYdbpj” (January 12, 2026).
Later that day, he responded to reports regarding presidential intentions by writing, “The President wishes he had used the military to overturn an election? This is chilling. That’s not leadership. That’s authoritarianism. I’m outraged and saddened. This is another corrupt admission that cannot be overlooked. https://t.co/QUSjBQBzso” (January 12, 2026).
Addressing safety concerns for elected officials and their staff in the evening, Morelle wrote: “Lawmakers shouldn’t have to worry about being targeted for serving as an elected representative. Their staff shouldn’t fear for their safety while serving their community. Threats and political violence have no place in our democracy. https://t.co/WzaIFFwyKE” (January 12, 2026).
Joseph Morelle has served in Congress since 2018 after replacing Louise Slaughter as the representative for New York’s 25th district. He previously spent nearly three decades in the New York State Assembly from 1991 until his election to Congress.
He was born in Utica in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit.
Morelle graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a BA in 1986.
