In recent tweets, U.S. Congressman Joe Morelle, who has been serving New York’s 25th district since 2018 after succeeding Louise Slaughter and having a longstanding political career in the New York State Assembly, shared his views on issues ranging from political visits to legislative advancements against deepfake exploitation.
On April 29, 2025, Joe Morelle discussed Tom Homan’s visit to Rochester, labeling it as a “political stunt”. He stated, “We all want secure borders, legal immigration, and our laws followed.” He criticized the Trump administration’s approach, stating, “The Trump administration’s chaotic, cruel, and often illegal actions are not how we get there,” concluding with “Rochester deserves better.”
In another tweet on the same day, Morelle addressed the rising issue of deepfake exploitation. He acknowledged the national attention that cases involving celebrities such as Taylor Swift receive, noting that “countless women and young girls face devastating emotional, financial, and reputational harm from deepfake exploitation every day.”
Further addressing the problem of deepfakes, he highlighted legislative progress with a focus on protecting women and girls. On April 29, 2025, Morelle announced the “passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act” as an “important step toward confronting the growing threat of non-consensual deepfake imagery,” emphasizing its disproportionate impact on women and girls.
Joseph Morelle, who resides in Irondequoit, has dedicated his political career to serving the citizens of his district, continuing to address local and national issues through legislative actions. Morelle achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree at the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1986.
