With the statutory deadline approaching for New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) transition, Jensen has called for an extension of the April 1 deadline. The proposed transition involves moving to a single statewide fiscal intermediary, which has raised concerns among program users and stakeholders.

Jensen emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure that all users can successfully transition without disruption. “Acting now will ensure all users of the program are able to successfully transition and their access to this critically important program is uninterrupted,” he stated.

The enrollment process has reportedly caused confusion within the state’s healthcare system. Jensen noted, “Regardless of whether or not the language mandating this transition… was the correct choice, to date the enrollment process continues to cause angst to users and confusion across our state’s health care continuum.”

Stakeholders have expressed worries about potential harm due to the current deadline. Jensen urged government partners to extend it: “We must immediately pass legislation extending the April 1 deadline… until a date when we are confident that all appropriate steps have in fact been taken.”

He appealed for responsible action beyond political considerations, stating, “I call on my partners in government to put politics and posturing aside and act responsibly.”
