Assemblyman Steve Hawley is launching the Annual New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge to promote reading and learning during the summer months. The initiative, themed “Color Our World,” is in collaboration with Summer Reading at New York Libraries. It targets students from kindergarten through seventh grade residing in the 139th Assembly District for the 2024-2025 school year.
Participants who commit to reading for a minimum of 15 minutes daily over at least 40 days throughout July and August will receive a New York State Excellence in Reading Certificate from Hawley.
“I’m excited to announce this challenge for the kids in our communities,” said Hawley. “Reading is an incredibly important part of any child’s education, and I hope this challenge will instill the value of learning in them. I know this is a great opportunity for our kids, and it will be a great way to kick off the summer!”
Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children can complete the registration form available online.
