Joseph Morelle, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 25th district, has recently taken to social media to express his gratitude and concerns over a series of events. On May 8, 2025, Morelle shared several tweets addressing different topics related to his work and priorities.
In a tweet posted on May 8, 2025, at 16:36 UTC, Morelle expressed appreciation for the interns who contributed to both his Rochester and D.C. offices. He stated: “As the semester ends, we say a heartfelt thank you to our incredible interns! Their hard work, insight, and dedication made a real impact in both our Rochester and D.C. offices—and in the lives of our constituents.” Morelle added that he is eager to see their future accomplishments.
Later that day, at 18:04 UTC, Morelle criticized President Trump for targeting what he described as “common sense programs,” including a federal drug enforcement task force that had recently removed fentanyl from his community. He declared: “President Trump continues to take aim at common sense programs, including a federal drug enforcement task force that removed 210 grams of fentanyl from our community last week.” Additionally, Morelle mentioned writing a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi demanding explanations.
In another post at the same time, Morelle defended the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force as central to the Department of Justice’s strategy against organized crime. He argued: “The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force is the centerpiece of DOJ’s strategy to combat organized crime and keep illicit drugs off our streets.” He warned against dismantling this program by stating it is not only shortsighted but also dangerous.
Joseph Morelle was born in Utica, New York in 1957 and currently resides in Irondequoit. Since succeeding Louise Slaughter in 2018 as U.S. Congress member for New York’s 25th District, he has been vocal about various legislative matters affecting his constituency.
