In light of recent developments, Assemblyman Josh Jensen has urged Governor Kathy Hochul and the Department of Health to disclose the recommendations from the Commission on the Future of Health Care before any legislative or executive measures are taken. Jensen, who is a ranking Minority member of the Assembly Health Committee, made this call following a Times Union article that outlined preliminary ideas from the commission’s ongoing work.
The article cited anonymous sources and highlighted potential reforms but did not provide a comprehensive view of the commission’s findings or supporting data. “New Yorkers deserve transparency,” stated Jensen. He emphasized that if the commission was established to shape New York’s health care future, its recommendations should be fully disclosed for public and legislative evaluation.
Governor Hochul initiated the Commission on the Future of Health Care in 2023 to address long-term reforms in response to workforce shortages and disparities in care access, particularly affecting rural and underserved areas.
Jensen called for bipartisan cooperation, stating, “We need bipartisan cooperation to ensure any changes are patient-centered, practical and accountable.” He underscored that this process is not merely about policy but involves people’s lives, advocating for an inclusive approach that considers all perspectives rather than just those of political insiders.
